Publisher:

London: Office of the Children's Commissioner, 2012. 23p.

Abstract:

This report provides a summary of some of the key equality information that relates to children and young people living in England. The Office of the Children’s Commissioner (OCC) is using this evidence to: inform its projects; establish objectives that seek to eliminate discrimination, advance equality and foster good relations; and help demonstrate commitment to meeting the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) set out in the Equality Act 2010. In the introduction, the main equality objectives for the work of OCC in 2012-2014 are set out. The report then considers the evidence relating to what is known about children and young people in relation to the protected characteristics set out in the 2010 Act (age; disability; race, gender; gender identity and transgender; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy, maternity and breast feeding; religion and belief; and sexual identity and orientation). The impact of this evidence for the work of the OCC is set out.
