Abstract: |
Set within the political and economic landscapes of social work in countries worldwide, this book provides valuable materials on areas of social work required to be taken into account in order to develop reflective practice based on a critically evaluative appreciation of ethics and the theory and purpose behind them. The international perspective is a valuable one in comparing how such considerations need to be taken into account in local situations, contexts and cultures—and, indeed, how and to what extent we should do so. It addresses some of the most pertinent aspects of social work ethics and their application in practice, management, and research. One of the central themes is the tension between universal ethics and their application in specific historical and cultural contexts. The book provides a resource for teaching as well as provocative reading for those who are interested in social work ethics and willing to entertain differing, occasionally conflicting perspectives. |
