Benefits after the bill: the future of benefits following the Welfare Reform Bill

Publisher:

Cardiff: Ferrett Information Systems, 2012. 81p.

Abstract:

Government policy is for short term cuts with a longer term ambition for a more integrated simpler Universal Credit for supporting people of working age, whether in-work or not. This report examines the effects of the changes to the UK benefits system following the Emergency Budget of June 2010, the Comprehensive Spending Review October 2010, the Autumn Statement 2011 and the Welfare Reform Bill 2011. It uses announced details and figures from impact assessments and other statements. The modelling uses Ferret’s Future Benefits Model (FFBM) a detailed model of personal tax and means-tested benefits and credits which forecasts, year by year, for 5 years into the future. The report starts by providing some notes on the effects of the Welfare Reform Bill. It then provides a number of modelled examples illustrating common circumstances.
