Title:

Parental aggression towards child protection social workers.

Abstract:

According to Oliver (2009) some research does not necessarily address issues that are taxing practitioners. However the subject of this dissertation is  topical and current. Fear of violence and aggression affects many of those involved in situations where child protection procedures are being deployed .A fear of intimidation can compromise a social workers practice in protecting children .Not only are qualified social workers affected, it also affects newly qualified social workers with the Social care Workforce Research Unit (2011) finding that one of the issues causing social work graduates anxiety is how to deal with hostility, aggression and conflict.

Aims & Objectives:

 1) The aim is to explore the psycho- social affect of hostility on individual social workers using their narrative accounts; 2) To explore how individual social worker respond to hostility; 3) To ascertain how hostility affects every day  practice; 4)  Why incidents of hostility are often under reported; 5) To gain an understanding of what social workers perceive are the reasons for parental hostility. The purpose of the research is to give attention to the psychological and emotional aspects of working with involuntary clients who are resistant to interventions from the view point of child protection social workers .If workers do not feel safe then the child most likely isnt.
