This toolkit is to support people to engage in peer activity around homelessness and health, by providing inspiration, practical advice and examples of peer activity in action. It is designed for people who commission, work in or use homelessness services. A peer approach seeks to overcome some of the traditional problems encountered between ‘clients’ and ‘professionals’. Using case studies and providing practical tips, the toolkit focuses in particular on: peer health research; peer health education; peer health promotion; peer health advocacy; and peer involvement in health commissioning. In addition, drawing on lessons from the case studies and from general good practice around volunteering with homeless and vulnerable people, the resource provides information and guidance around recruiting, training and supporting peers in health activity.
