This report summarises key findings from the Pan-London Safeguarding Children Culture and Faith Project. This project sought to promote a step-change in safeguarding London’s children living in minority ethnic, culture or faith communities or groups. The project comprised 3 parts: project work with minority ethnic, culture or faith communities and groups by 10 London local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs); focus groups in all 32 London LSCBs; and interviews with all 32 London LSCBs. Final reports from 8 of the 10 LSCBs which carried out local project work are included as appendices to this report. A number of common themes emerge from these LSCB reports: the importance of working in partnership; the key role of local leaders; the importance of building up mutual understanding; and an acceptance that engagement is a long term process. The aim is for this work to continue beyond the life of this project and to contribute towards a step-change for these children and families. Outputs from the project include a guidance document, a training toolkit, and an LSCB engagement strategy to assist minority ethnic communities and faith groups in protecting their children and working with statutory services to do so. These outputs should make a real difference in assisting LSCBs to implement local plans and strategies.
