The development and empirical status of internet-delivered self-help is discussed on the basis of the results of randomised trials in which the authors have been involved. The trials focus on cognitive behavioural therapy and the treatment approach combines bibliotherapy (involving book-length text materials) with support given online via web pages and email. Interactive features such as online registration, tests and discussion forums are also included. This paper gives an overview of the findings and their implications, current issues and research in service delivery, and directions for future research.
